"Land Before Time"

Although the John Muir Trail consistently traverses some of the most spectacular scenery to be found in the United States, few places along the 200+ mile route hold the mystique and majesty of Evolution Basin in King's Canyon National Park.  Despite being located along the well-beaten path, this basin is not easy to get to, and because of this, solitude and quiet can be found in the basin with only very little extra effort.  In the summer of 2012, the Sierra skies were unusually stormy, and this image was captured only 30 minutes before a spectacular explosion of thunder, lightning and rain drove my family to our tent.

The entire evening was unforgettable!
