Southwest Canyons and Plains

The sandy canyons and washes, towering cliffs and meandering rivers of the American Southwest are perhaps some of the most inspiring, challenging and beautiful regions of our planet.  Complex and fragile ecosystems exist in these often hostile lands, where summer daytime temperatures exceed 100 degrees Fahrenheit, and winter temperatures hover near zero.  The plants, animals and people who call this area home have learned how to adapt, survive and even thrive in these harsh conditions.  It is this struggle - a fine balance - that makes the Southwest an unbelievably rewarding place to explore.

Each day I spend here, I discover amazing places where wind and water have sculpted sandstone formations and canyons that are like nothing found elsewhere in this world.  Here, more than in the mountains, I feel the overwhelming vastness of wilderness, a land where timeless beauty reigns supreme.
